You probably heard of Mount Everest right 😅 I am kidding. Almost all students know about Everest since their Childhood as it is the tallest mountain peak on the entire planet Earth. But, you are surprised after hearing that a mountain exists that is 3 times taller than Mt Everest. Yes, that's the story of Olympus Mons, the tallest mountain also a volcano in our entire SOLAR SYSTEM.🤔

Yes, you have to believe that the Universe is full of mysteries. One such mystery is Olympus Mons on Mars. It is considered the largest volcano as also a mountain in our Solar System, with an elevation of 21900 meters and a surface area of 600 km, as far as the size of the whole of France. Just imagine how massive it is. It is situated in the Tharsis Montes region on Mars. It is basically a high mountainous region in the western hemisphere of Mars.

You can see other massive mountains in this region which are Arsia Mons, Pavonis Mons, and Ascraeus Mons ( Mons is a Latin word for Mountain ).

And here is the giant himself Olympus Mons ( in the above picture ). It is a Shield Volcano that is estimated that it is still Active. Now, you may ask a question why such a large volcano are here on Mars but not on Earth. The answer is Mars's Gravity is very low as compared to Earth also there are no tectonic Plates on Mars that can make this region mobile. So, after millions of years of Lava flowing that is how such a gigantic Mountain is formed. If you compare it to Mt Everest it is 3 times from MSL ( Mean Sea Level ) on Mars. Let's look at the graphical comparison.

In the above picture, the snowy mountain is ............... Guess what 😅 Our Everest. This is the size comparison of Mt Everest and Olympus Mons.

If you want to climb on it, you have to take almost two days to complete it as the surface is also very big in diameter. But, the slope is very gentle only 5 degrees. After you reach the top you can't see other portion of the planet because of its surface so your eye all cover up to the Horizon.
