Is "Mountain of the Moon" exists in real life?

Today's topic is pretty interesting, all of us basically who are Bangalees are heard about this book called "Chander Pahar" by Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhyay. Many of us also read that book or watch the movie that comes out in 2013. It is such a breathtaking, adventurous novel that everyone loves it very much. I remember when I first read this book I was only 9 years old, and this is my first novel, I was so fascinated by his description of Africa, its animals, the environment, the surroundings, and obviously 'Sankar', the main character of that novel. From a small village of India, where his home is to visit mysterious Africa and discover the Diamond Mine, that is absolutely outstanding. So, yes apart from the intro, today our topic is - does the mountain of the moon really exists in real life or not?

So, first of all, we have to understand why it is called the Mountain of the Moon? So, the area is approximately standing in today's Uganda. The mountain range is called "Rwenzori National Park".

It is a hilly area in the middle of Africa, so you can probably guess that it is in the area of the Tropics so rainfall is very natural here, so the vegetation is a very wide range. The altitude is within 3000 to 4500 meters. A famous peak here is Mt. Stanley ( 5109 meters), the third-highest peak of the continent.

So, what happens is that an ancient merchant called Diogenes first discovered this place. Before this, the place was unknown to everyone ( similarly Africa also unknown to Europeans till the 19th Century so everyone called it the 'Dark Continent'). So, after Diogenes's discovery the famous geographer Ptolemy first named it the "Mountain of the Moon" because of the snow-capped peaks. It is one of the sources of the Nile River ( the longest river on our planet). That's how its name came into existence. many cinemas are played to describe its beauty, many books are written like Chander Pahar. If you ask locals about it they say that this is a completely whole World to them. Recently many hazardous activities like Floods and Draughts have ruined its habitats.

You can see an overview here on Google Earth. The area is full of mountains. Hope you are liking my content. So, please comment down and subscribe by clicking the Blue Bell button on your bottom right so that you can receive a notification whenever I published a new post. Thanks...
